Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
Week after week you sit in church on Sundays and listen to your pastor admonish you to make disciples. You know the importance of the Great Commission but in this season of motherhood, when the laundry and dishes are piled high – discipleship doesn’t seem within reach.
You’re busy balancing a nursing baby and a needy toddler on your lap or running constant carpools or trying to manage a healthy balance between work and home-life.
You don’t see how discipleship can fit into your busy life. Especially, when you don’t even have time to exercise. Right?
Yet, more than ever discipleship IS within your reach. At your very finger-tips, waiting for you to reach out, to make a lasting impact. One that will out-live you.
Jesus poured into twelve. And went deeper with 3.
He invested in a few and the hope of the gospel made a global impact. We know this method of discipleship works. What we question is how the Great Commission applies to the everyday-mom.
So what if we made it personal and posed the question more simply?
“What could God do with my few?”
Maybe, just maybe, God could use the everyday-mom to change the world. Right from her own living room.
One life impacting another, that in-turn impacts another and another, creating a domino effect that could reach the ends of the earth and future generations.
Most likely you already know your few. But often, you and I, miss the opportunities right-in-front-of-us.
Our souls long for purpose outside ourselves but we don’t have the eyes to see beyond our dirty countertops and unswept floors.
The enemy wants to keep our eyes fixed on our faults and failings to keep us from fixing our eyes on Jesus. The enemy wants to hold us back from living out our purpose :: to make disciples.
God uniquely wired you and gave you a one-of-a-kind grace story. As a Christ follower, the Holy Spirit wants you to proclaim the gospel and to share your story with others.
You and I don’t have to wait until our children are fully grown to begin. And we certainly don’t have to wait until we’ve caught up on washing the dirty dishes in our sinks or until we finally put away all that clean laundry.
You can start today.
Right in your own living room.
With your own people.
With the little faces that are staring back at you on a daily basis. With the people God has already put on your path.
Friend, this is my heart. And I’m going to give it away right here on my blog.
I’m not a pastor, seminary-trained, or in full-time ministry. I’m just an ordinary woman, wife + mom of 4, who loves Jesus, who serves in her local church and who lives out this daunting thing called discipleship. And I want to empower you to do the same.
Dare to Disciple will help you ::
1) Discover your “few” within your existing sphere of influence.
2) Show you how to share the gospel and your grace story naturally with others.
3) Teach you how to sustain intentional discipleship relationships in the midst of your busy life.
Let’s do this together. See you next time ~ we’ll talk about “Why Discipleship Matters”
